Those of us who braved the elements on Sunday for the Hillsborough Park Christmas Festival were rather chilly and soggy by the end of the event but had lots of creative fun despite the weather! A beautiful tree sculpture was decorated by different participants and volunteers at Hillsborough Park- it features birch branches with a woven chicken wire trunk and was decorated by participants. People made leaves, wrapped fabric and yarn around the branches, hung spiders and berries from it! Some called it an alternative Christmas tree, others said it was a magic tree and one girl called it ‘the wishing tree’!
‘I thought the Hillsborough Park Christmas Festival was brilliant! Sally Rodgers made an excellent artist facilitator. The tree we decorated looked really pretty; decorating it with leaves, bits of woven fabric and spiders was a great idea. It was a shame about the weather and tree rubbing was difficult, due to the wet weather we were having.’
