Art in the Park Exhibition at Upperthorpe Healthy Living Centre
Saturday 6th to Friday 19th May 2006
Volunteers from Art in the Park designed and mounted an eclectic exhibition of artwork and photographs produced at events between June 2005 and May 2006.
The work included a photocopy collage of images of Edward St Flats hanging from the entrance as you walked in, prints and drawings inspired by Philadelphia green space, bird masks, story boards, silver foil sculptures and the drawing cave.
Art was hung around the entrance, library, glass-fronted room, swimming pool foyer and the café of the Healthy Living Centre, filling the centre with colour, shapes, images and showing off the talent and creative impulses of local people.
The exhibition opened on Friday 5th May with a screening of the Art in the Park DVD in the glass-fronted room. The DVD, made by volunteers, is a portrait of the project, showcasing some of the work that goes on at events, interviewing volunteers and taking you behind the scenes of Art in the Park to the volunteer planning meetings.
On Sunday May 14th we held an event at the Upperthorpe Peace Gardens behind the Healthy Living Centre where we printed a landscape on to fabric. This will go on display at the Healthy Living Centre shortly.
We are looking for a more permanent home for much of the artwork, places where it can be on display to the public. If you think you might know of somewhere get in touch!
