Hillsborough Park Christmas Festival, 9th December 2007
This was the perfect event to get everyone in the festive spirit! The icy cold weather was an appropriate setting for the wonderful creations of snowflakes and icicles, a project led by artist Kerry Bertram. The event took place in the walled garden area of Hillsborough Park within the stables.
Alongside servings of mulled wine and Christmas songs played by the Brass Band and a Sax Quartet, a fantastic winter garden was being created. Adults and children made snowflakes using an array of materials, woven in and out of the frames, forming beautiful decorations to be hung outside in the walled garden. The icicles were made using plastic and were filled with a range of materials such as glitter, felt and buttons, finished off with wire to twist it into an icicle shape. These looked great outside creating a festive piece of outdoor art, using the archway and various plants to display the decorations that had been made. Everyone could choose where they thought best that their decoration should be put on view and the result was a lovely collection of unique creations that adorned the garden.
As dusk set in the winter garden held a brilliant fire display to finish off the afternoon. Christmas songs accompanied the skillful performance of fireÉ.(the name of the fire art that you said but I cant remember what is was called) which was very impressive!
The pieces of art created by the people of Sheffield will be up for all to enjoy in the walled garden and a similar project will be taking place Sunday 16th December at Rivelin Park to continue the winter festivities!
