The Art in the Park event at the Ponderosa in July was my first event as a volunteer. I was unsure what to expect exactly but left my mind open to a day that I knew was going to be filled with creating and making masks and instruments. All made fantastic things and I was pleasantly surprised at just how nice everyone was; volunteers, the kids and the parents that turned up.
Despite it being a very hot day the local people braved it and seemed to get through the very hot day with loads of water and just as much spirit. The pavements became beautifully chalked, fantastic summery beach paintings were produced to name but a few, circus tricks, Diablo and poi spinning were taught, great food was shared and eaten. All of this and the enthusiasm made it an enjoyable first experience of Art in the Park. My favourite event of the day has to be the parade where we donned our masks, rattled our instruments and jigged through the woods to the sound of tin whistles. Fantastic.
